Dev update: Bug fixes and scrolling improvements

Google Chrome's Dev channel has been updated to The main changes to highlight are:
  • Improved scrolling on pages with multiple plugins.
  • Fixed (mostly) the problem of tabs suddenly going to the smallest size.
  • Fixed downloads going to the wrong folder.
  • Fixed Gears not loading sometimes.
  • Removed the option to import bookmarks from Google bookmarks. We think we can improve this feature, so we're pulling it out until we come up with something better.
  • Added a way to remove sites from the 'Never remember passwords' list. Go to Options > Minor Tweaks > Passwords and click Exceptions.
Find about the Dev channel and how to subscribe at

The complete list of changes is available in the release notes.

Much better than the last release, that TAB sizing issues bugged me a lot but worth the price.

I just miss google bookmarks.

that should be higher priority.

I'm having some problems with the Google Docs site and the Google AdWords site since I've updated Chrome. I can't see anything in the Google Docs main page, and when I try to get some results in AdWords, I can't see any of them. Any ideas?

Yep, works great with Windows 7 too, once you've tweaked the launch shortcut.

Oh, just one really missing feature, some way to sync your favorites between several computers. Using Google bookmarks would be great.

But it looks like you're working on it, I just hope it wouldn't take long.

I can't see why you removed the import feature though. Granted it wasn't perfect, you should be able to sync both ways, but I thought one way was still better than no way at all...

Well, at least I don't feel like E.T. here, there are some rendering problems, but hell, is the price of using a dev build. :)

With some Web pages, the text would "blend in" with the background or becomes "transparent."

Also, when a new window is open, its taskbar icon/button wouldn't get the focus - the focus stays with the original window's button.

With some forums and such, what I'm seeing is that some "inner" part of the page (some branch of some object tree?) is invisible, but that zoom in/zoom out may leave that inner text visible or invisible in unpredictable ways.

On side note Give me Google Bookmarks before we all get too pissed helping you fix this Browser and move back to IE or FF.

I am going to keep IE as my default for now.

1. Google Bookmarks
2. Slow resolution of Issues. Seems like these people don't know nothing. I have been in QA myself know how it works. But this is too much.
3. Even Google's Own websites don't work.
4. They broke this comment feature last week. Very careless. Seems like they changed the way it looks and nobody even tested that's pathetic
5. People might hate IE but that's what works. Speed is good but so do the features.

@Milorad : yes 1st URL is empty in the center frame. Can't try the later one, requires login.

@Sab : no problem at all with Gmail, use it all the time. And no, I don't think it's going slow. They went from beta to stable within a few months, and V2 adds usefull features. Critical bugs in the dev branch are usually fixed within a day, I think that's ok.

1. Any a:hover attributes are ignored.
2. Under Vista Aero, a few pixels of the top of the Chrome window are cut out.
3. Tab resizing now seems to be fixed in this build. However, under a multi-monitor configuration, if I move from the primary monitor to another one, the tabs do not resize at all: they just stay in their full form.

I just want to echo the feature request of being able to sync bookmarks - preferably using google bookmarks - across multiple computers. It seems to fit the cloud computing model so I'm sure you're working on it. Thanks for all the hard work!

I'm having disappearing-content problems as well on many websites (page loads and instantly parts of it disappear).

And when the tabs will be back to normal when window is maximized? They're still being slightly cut off the screen.

I hope you are able to provide the same behaviour IE8 has on Windows 7 (the thumbnails to every tab when hovering Chrome taskbar icon).

Another comment: the last 3 or 4 dev updates were too messy, tabs collapsing, things not loading, this never happened so frequently.

I know dev release shouldn't be used on production environments, but they should be at least usable, right?

I havent Seen problems with transparency, But on im seeing border and size issues in column lower layer divs, I tried to use "Inspect Element" feature to deduce the problem, and it seems to be a width issue. The div is slightly to the right more than usual, and that is making the borders go away. If i add 20px to the column width, it fixes it for the most part. Maybe Chrome is overlooking some small size attribute? Havent had a problem with any other website. Also, i use Chrome maximized, and the top is a little clipped off. Hopefully a small issue. Good work guys, i love the form filling, and exceptions to "Never for This Site".

Nate: Yeah I have that problem too. It seems Chrome is hiding random DIVs when the page finishes loading. WTF I thought they did testing against thousands of pages, it should caught something like this.

3:06 PM, February 02, 2009
Blogger The MAZZTer said...

Aha, found a workaround: Resize the window horizontally and sometimes the divs will be visible.

7:06 PM, February 02, 2009
Blogger ghcharters said...

The MAZZTer ... do the pages you looked at respond to my earlier suggestion ... right-click and choose "Print", or just Ctrl-P? Many of the ones I've come across aren't fixed by re-sizing horizontally.

These problems are solved with latest build. All elements at page are visible, tabs are maximized. I think that new dev update will be released soon.

I'm also having the disappearing content problem. Happens randomly on some news websites. I'm not sure why. If I refresh sometimes it happens again, other times it will load and everything will stay on the screen.

just a link from but happens randomly on many pages. Thanks!

Aleš ... do you know when this build will be made generally available to the dev stream?

12:22 PM, February 03, 2009
Blogger DChiuch said...

I'm pretty sure that I've worked out the divs disappearing problem. It seems that, when the page loads, if the mouse is hovering over a hyperlink, then it causes some divs to disappear. If you make sure that when the page loads, the mouse is in an empty area of space, then it should load correctly.

ghcharters... I don´t know exactly. But I think that it can be this week. With build 9128 I have already Webkit with linktest failed. I hope to that it will be fixed with next builds. We will see.:-)
