Stable Channel Release for Chrome OS

The Stable channel has been updated to 29.0.1547.57 (Platform version: 4319.74.0) for all Chrome OS devices (edited 8/23/2013: except the Lenovo Thinkpad X131e). This build contains a number of bug fixes, security updates and feature enhancements. Systems will be receiving updates over the next several days.

Some highlights of these changes are:
  • Kernel 3.8 landed on Pixel and Samsung 550.
  • New “immersive” mode - hit the fullscreen button to hide the toolbar and shelf and until you hover at the top for a more immersive browsing experience.
  • Pin apps to the shelf using Drag and Drop from the Launcher
  • Default wallpaper selection will sync across all your devices
  • Monitor Scaling allows you to scale the UI. Especially useful on Pixel to get some more space
  • Two-finger history navigation
  • App launcher Search just got cleverer
    • It will dynamically learn what you search for
    • Apps are more prominent
    • It will search for you in the web store if you don’t have an app installed
Known Issues:
  • The link to redeem your Chrome Goodies in the Files app is temporarily broken and will be fixed with the next release. In the meantime, please go here directly.
If you find new issues, please let us know by visiting our help site or filing a bug. Interested in switching channels? Find out how. You can submit feedback using ‘Report an issue...’ in the Chrome menu (3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner of the browser).

Would it be the stable channel that's been updated? The title and post tags would seem to suggest so, but the text reads "The Beta channel has been updated to 29.0.1547.57." Thanks for the clarification.

Nice that the Files app now remembers screen view options like maximize and if list or tile view were last used.
Also notice that there is now a display option visible even without external monitor plugged in. Will need to see if the adjust TV feature in Monitors is fixed....

Confirmed. In settings under Displays, Adjust TV is now called Adjust Overscan, and works perfectly to fine tune the visible area on your tv/external monitor. Thanks!

I really hope for an update that would extend the battery life of the Pixel further, like what happened with samsung new chromebook. Also, an update for a 3g fallback for the LTE model would be great, to be able to use the pixel in different parts of the world when travelling.

Hi there, you've said that Monitor Scaling allows you to scale the UI.

How do this work?

Thanks for a reply.

Has this affected pinch zooming? None of my tabs seem to be responding to pinch zoom after this update.

Three-finger click for middle mouse button now seems to be gone, at least on my old C7 Chromebook.

Would be cool if in full screen mode the browser tabs would pop down individually instead of bringing down the whole address bar.

Has anyone noticed that gmail has become extremely slow to start up on Chromebooks since this update to stable? There seems to be a problem loading chat/hangouts; the inbox is loaded, and then nothing happens (sometimes for a couple of minutes) before the list of chat/hangout contacts is loaded. During that time, the whole machine is locked up.

I've just noticed the same behavior with Chrome on my Mac. But Firefox loads Gmail lightning fast, without any problems. I have disabled extensions, but it seems to have no effect. And, in any case, the problem only appeared with the new release -- I had the same extensions before, without any problem. Anyone else finding this?

Having major Ajax problems with old pagemethods. It seems to be a problem with webresource.axd. If I change the User-Agent to firefox or IE the site works fine, this was working in Chrome before the update. Any ideas?

It turns out there is a conflict with an extension: AddThis - now that it's gone, ChromeOS seems to be running nicely. And I love the improvements in external monitor handling!

WHOO! Finally the video player looks to be updated!! I had movies that were in .avi format that I could only watch from start to finish. I could not skip anywhere without it just giving me a black screen and never loading. Perfect, Chromebook is now complete and does everything except sync with my iPhone(which I don't expect it to) and play games(which I also don't expect it to), that's what a gaming rig is for.
