maybe it's just me, but i cannot login to gmail!!! it says the fields are blank.... if this is a true bug a TOTAL recall is in order :)
Gmail (Germany) works for me. New tab page is enabled by default.
Hi.The startpage is better now thou I think the popup of topbar is too fast, maybe shouldn't even apear at all until you'll hoover the top area of the shortcuts.Keep up the nice job.// R
Very nice work guys! :) Ron
am i the only one here that doesnt like the new new tab?..
Folders on the bookmark bar should open (expand) without clicking on it, like Firefox/Safari. The way how is now, with clinking on it on open and close is just annoying. Please fix that. Other then that A++++
Rene fill a bug, if there is not one yet!God (?) I think we should wait 4 the final version before judge.. i like it anyway...
Well, at least bookmark bar folders on Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4 for Windows *do* require clicking to expand, so I don't know which Firefox and Safari that Rene is referring to that don't require clicking.
Great Job!2 Dev Updates in a week without significant issues...plus favicons look normal again. I smell a Stable release around the corner.....time to start working on Chrome OS!!!Any chance of auto-refresh making it in 4.00XX dev build?
@Rene...my folders in bookmark bar open automatically after I hover over it for a second
@joegrind, really? for Chrome? Actually, do you mean the folders inside the "Other bookmarks" dropdown?I think Rene is talk about the horizontal blue "Bookmarks bar" that is displayed underneath the Omnibox.I have to click on my "Bookmarks bar" folders before they open. Hovering over them does nothing.
@krtulmay: Yes, the bar beneath the omnibox..Maybe I may not be talking about the same thing. I have all my most used favicons visible and then the others further to the right. Once I click on the expand arrows in the right corner of the bookmark bar, my other favicons and folders become visible. Once I hover over a folder, all the bookmarks expand.
@krtulmay...oh I don't have any folders in the "other bookmarks" folder...just bookmarklets
Edit: There's a problem with Google Reader now. When I middle click on a link inside Reader, it opens a tab and then quickly closes it. It's pretty annoying.
I wish the new New Tab page had the alternate search boxes back. I used those a lot. :( Also I liked 9 thumbnails, I used to go to the 9th one a lot. And finally, recent bookmarks was helpful to return to pages that were involved in recent projects. Finally, being able to reset the thumbnails after deleting one was really useful. The new New Tab page is really a big step back for me. :(
The blue Bookmark bar on the top below the address bar can hold links and folder also. With Firefox and Safari once you click on the folder it's expand and show the links inside that folder. if you move cursor to the next folder it's automatically expand without clicking on it again. With Chrome I need to click to close folder and click one more time to expand another folder. It's a lot of clicking with no reason. I mention that couple times before but it's look like nobody think about that like a problem. Personally I have categories on the bookmark bar and that way I can find and browse really quick true my bookmarks.
Yeah, i have the same problem in google readerthe page opens and close immediately. :(
can confirm the google reader bug, quite annoying. Gonna file a bug report.
Great work guys, I like new history thumbnail arrangement and possibility to change to list-view, and pin. I have been using Maxthon for years, but now switched full time to google chrome. One feature that I am badly missing from Maxthon is the auto online storage of favorites, which is very handy if you using different comps e.g at home and work. Using delicious/google toolbar, of course, are alternatives, but they complete mess up working space so I dont like them at all. This will also increase usage statistics of Chrome and so higher market share. This feature is also missing in Firefox (though I personally hate firefox). Thanks and hoping to see more features and stable releases in future.
I like the new tab page. Its very good.
Google reader having problem on open page by clicking on the link.. But not all subscription it occur. Most common is Google Chrome releases subscriptions.
Gmail works for me. The new new tab is visually a big change. In my opinion,1) the 3x3 layout of the thumbnails was prettier, and it should be an option2) the pin/unpin and erase buttons in the new new tab are better than in the previous version3) there's too little space above the "Google Chrome" label in the left upper corner4) the history and downloads as the continuation of the "recent examples" is very logical5) I've never used the search custom engines from the new tab page, but they were still pretty, and I am not sure why they're gone6) the text-only list of the thumbnails may be usefulThere are still many things that are lacking such as the export of custom search engines (it could be a special part of the normal bookmarks - they could be merged!) and other things.
I have to agree with god on this one.
Cool! Finally some movement on client certificate authentication. The only thing is that it seems that the client certificate is not cached between requests, because Chrome asks me, *after* authentication, repeatingly for my certificate ...Great work though!Regards,Bert
I was using the search custom engines on the new tab a lot.. don't understand why they are gone.. would appreciate if they would come back..rgds,
OPTION/SELECt elements working fine?
new tab page really rockss... and Chrome Will dominate surly....Chrome Rocksss
i have to copy what Mark said, Google Reader isn't usable at all. when opening a new item (hitting the "v" hot key, a new opens and then closes really quickly.bit sad as Google Reader is the number two web app i use, GMail being number one.
Acid3 Test 100% successful!!!Well done!!
Maybe I just have some bad karma..) My 22.214.171.124 crushed, my 126.96.36.199 was crushind into an "error page" until I replaced chrome.exe with the one of 188.8.131.52. And everything works fine now, even the new Tab Page)))))
Well done, Google Chrome 3.0.192.X finally solve the Acid3 test problem. But in the process of testing there are still a cross at the top right corner. What is that means? Can Google Chrome try to tweak something to make it perfection whereby no cross at the top right corner.Besides that, this build seems to becomes a little bit slower than the official release 184.108.40.206 when try to access certain webpages in different language. The loading speed tempt to be slow and sometimes hang due to the incompatibility of the websites. For instance, http://www.apple.com/ the search bar there is filled with dim background which is deteriorate the appearance. Other than that, the whole browser is decent with the new layout of speed dial and please upgrade the speed of opening a new tab as the refurbishment of the structure design make the process becomes slower.Overall, Google Chrome did a diligent work in making the browser up to the standard that required by the public.
Please let me see more than 8 top sites. How about adding a link to the new tab page saying "Next set of 8 top sites", clicking upon which I'd see positions 9 through 16 of the "most frequently/recently visited sites" list. Surely that information is already being stored somewhere; please enable us to see it.
Lots of fixes and positive new features! Especially nice that Favicons are no longer garbled. But I would like to second Lumo and god:1.) Please make the 3x3 thumbnail layout optional.I find it far more useful than 2x4 and two tabs that I rarely use.2.) Alternatively, allow users to customize if they want a 3x3, 3x4, 2x4 with this and that tab.
_____________Maybe I just have some bad karma..)My 220.127.116.11 crushed, my 18.104.22.168 was crushind into an "error page" until I replaced chrome.exe with the one of 22.214.171.124.And everything works fine now, even the new Tab Page)))))_____________Nope, I was too quick posting this.. It doesn't work also)Downloading stable version now and waiting for the new dev update.
New tab page is still somewhat raw: let us add some colour to the background, white is too sterile and clinical! Also, let us adjust the number of thumbnails we want displayed: some people still have small screens, some have considerably larger, so let them adjust the number of thumbnails to their screen size.Add some pizazz, guys! Don't be so geeky! Attract a more varied customer base!
Oh, and the Acid3 Test may be showing a 100/100 mark, yet it also shows a fuchsia box on the top right corner with an X in it, which is not right.
I love the new tab page. It looks fantastic but I would like to second Lumo's points. I also prefer the 3X3 layout of the thumbnails. I think that having the recent bookmarks and downloads stuff that is now on the bottom was more efficient on the right. Also PLEASE bring back the searches thing. I really liked it. Lastly, good work on all the updates! They are really being churned out at a rate of knots! Fantastic stuff guys. keep up the good work
check out Opera's latest desktop snap shot. they take your idea and add a HUGE amount of customer configuration. i have 16 thumbnails and a custom background.it's like wayyy back in the day when i used to write my own home page in HTML.
Ok so I can now move my thumbnails around/etc. Hooray. Not. I find the new tab page visibly disgusting compared to the older one. Not just the 3x3 layout which in my opinion is MUCH more visually appealing and useful. However what upsets me even more is the "extra" stuff is now at the bottom, rather than on the right-hand side. This means my browser now has a constant scroll-bar on the right(and I AM using a high resolution), not to mention it's just visibly terrible looking. Please please at a minimum give us an option to go back to the older page, I miss it dearly and don't think I can stay with Chrome with this change(it is just too ugly).
Another bug, which has been around for several months: the Google logo next to the minimize-maximize-close buttons appears on top of the buttons (and restores to its proper position after maximizing and restoring).
gillespunk, you may want to add a "--old-new-tab-page" switch to your chrome shortcut. i did =/actually, this is a first disappointment from chrome, no bugs/crushes/stuff-not-working were so frustrting. i hope there would be a lot of options to change the layout of the new tab page, AND THAT IT WOULD BE IN PREFERENCIES, not some third party extensions.
Is this version a little bit slower...?? some pages are loading slower then before...
The New Tab really sucks -_-I want the "Bookmarked" pages back again the New Tab page...I used that a lot O.oBut the rest is OK...
I use the screen at 1280x1024 I would like to have more thumbnails, you can put up to 20 thumbnails with my screen definition.
If the Google Chrome can add one button that can fully self-adjustable the thumbnails that is even better to suit with the taste of each individual.Besides that, I got one suggestion whereby Google Chrome can add another button in the option area whereby can automatically cleanup history. If this option can made, Google Chrome are the best option for public to use in a first place.
The 'Always open files of this type' option no longer seems to work. I reverted to both stable and beta versions and it worked again. Tested in torrent files with utorrent being the application that should automatically open them.
Confirmed problem with google reader. I can't open with scroll click but i can open with right click > open in new tab... Otherwise, great release :)
Thanks "god" I will definitely use that... "--old-new-tab-page" for everyone hating the new tab page! Hopefully it sticks around or they do something to fix this rather than us be forced to use this switch...
Anyone else having performance issues with http://mashable.com/2009/05/28/google-wave-guide/ ?
i just would like to say that when i opened chrome this morning, i was pleasantly surprised by the new tab layout. i really like how it looks, though i do agree more cusomisation options would be nice (similar to how iGoogle and Gmail can be customised)..keep up the good work! with all the updates over the last month, chrome has become my default browser
Nm...I'm not sure if this is the same problem as google reader. But I have www.igoogle.com opened and then at the same tab page, i type another address for example, www.yahoo.com, the tab closed immediately...
I'd also like to have more than 8 or 9 sites in the new tab page.As far as the X in Acid3 is concerned, there's an explanation: read comment 85 at http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=231
--enable-user-scripts crashes Chrome into an "error page"
The Google Reader issue should be fixed with 193.0.
Ah! Thanks for the "--old-new-tab-page" thing... I was hating the new layout. I would love to see a combination of new and old. The old layout was easier and slightly more functional for me, but I love the new "lock" on what commonly used pages were shown.
Nice to see that Chrome is getting better each new build.Could you guys please reintroduce some of the features of the old New Tab page over to the new one (they were already mentioned in this post before)? Also, could you change Chrome's default behavior on page scrolling after refreshing the page? It's because after reloading a web page and considering that I scrolled to the half of the page (for example), Chrome will automatically direct the scrolling to the top. That should be fixed because it's a little annoying to need to scroll down on the page after reloading it.Overall, 5 stars to Chrome.
Well, nice article buddy… Someone will love to read this infor if I tell her about this. She’s really interested in this subject. Thanks again… Please come visit my site St. Paul Business Directory when you got time.
Wow, loving the two photos you posted. You got potential. Please visit my site Wichita Business Directory when you got time.
Great job, but you NEED to add the ability to choose how many favorite websites show up on the default home page.I have a widescreen monitor with a large resolution. 8 site thumbnails don't even fill half the page so it's wasting space. Please add an option change how many links there are. Maybe some column/row settings. :)
