New content settings are missing a cache size option.

And still no option to change the installation path of Chrome.

I guess version 5 should have those standard options.

Why have the memory/high CPU usage problems not been addressed? Am i the only one with outrageous amounts of memory being used with 5 tabs open?

REO: it's obviously version 5 because the official version 4 stable has been released a few days ago, so new features are always starting the new stable version 5 that will be released in the future.

That doesn't mean that the changes are (or can be) abrupt. But there's always only one major stable version with each first number being worked upon and 4 is already out. All others, later stable versions are just security/urgent improvements of it.

TwitterBar has broke with this release for me on Mac. :-( Looking for another simple Twitter extension now.. :S

Jug said...

Ugh, noo... :( ChromeMilk also broke. Did this build cause a regression with toolbar-based extensions on Mac?

2:43 AM, January 30, 2010
Peter said...

Many Thanks for the Contents Settings window. However I have lost all my extensions settings because no distinction is being made between web sites cookies and local settings of extensions. The option to clear cookies when leaving the browser is welcome but this should not be combined with clearing local site data such as extensions data.

Also please refine the javascript settings. For privacy, security and browser performance we want 3 options: block all javascript, allow all (these options are present) but also allow only javascript of the domain&top-level domain and not 3rd party javascript (just like the noscript extension of Firefox is capable of doing)

Jug said...

Sorry for the comment spam, but now after switching to Beta channel for Mac with that build, and then back again and reinstalling this dev build, my ChromeMilk now work again. *shrug*

Earlier it was like clicking on the extensions' toolbar icons didn't do anything. Oh well. :)

Seems that after updating, the theme is changed to something other than the default. Everything is fixed if you just go to the options and restore the default, but the theme shouldn't be changing upon update.

Using peacekeeper online benchmark, Chrome Version 4 performs better in the rendering part. Other than that, version 5 is better, strictly speaking from the benchmark point of view.

Additionally to my previous feedback above, on this dev Chrome-version, about Javascript: it would even be better if the user has also the option to execute per website those javascripts he wants (i.e. select them from a list associated with the web site) and block those he wants with as default the domain scripts (just as noscript of Firefox). This is important for privacy, security and performance ....

On the theme-issue with this version: I could easily solve it by just reinstalling my theme (no point at all).

To solve the double wrench issue, I reverted to original (default) chrome theme, and then installed the one I had previously again...

For the extension slide bar, the arrows don't show my other extensions though, so I can't make it smaller. Anyone else have this issue?

Aviramof: These dev builds are incremental. Version 5 is starting to be worked on now, since version 4 was released to the stable channel. I'm sure the stable version 5 later this year will warrant the version number. ;)

I like the new features though when I hide extensions, the drop down menu does not work for me. It would also be interesting if we could reorder extensions.

I also like the fact that we can now close a pin tab but it remains there disabled.

some https sites are not working. Where as Gmail works, my banking sites are not working. IE8 displays them correctly. Is there known issue with this?

I agree, the extensions should be rearrangeable.

Chris Jones said...

It would be great if some of the basic features that were missing in the initial release would finally be added. For example, we're now pushing into v5 and still no print preview. Lack of a print preview is really surprising after 4 full releases. Bookmarks are still rudimentary, and support for bookmark tagging as featured in Firefox since 2.0 would be fantastic.

On the upside, the content settings is really promising. This (as it matures) along with a few site-level adjustment buttons on the interface (perhaps via an extension) could fill in some of the NoScript and CSLite functionality that's currently unavailable.

I'm a user of webtrends (ondemand.webtrends.com) and the latest dev build no longer allows me to login. Looks like during a redirection on their page the browser just does nothing. Works fine in IE.

dont say lie... what is new for v5? crash fixes. hahaha...

9:42 AM, February 01, 2010
Chris O'Brien said...

I appreciate the idea of hiding the extension buttons, but the slider disrupts the sleek interface. Put my vote towards rearranging as well. I agree that the bookmarks manager is a bit lacking, RSS should have native support, and there should be better script level management. Download management also needs to be improved.

I found the google chrome support page, but its very hard to navigate, I can't even search for a particular issue before posting one myself.

Also, the extensions page has been broken for quite some time, the list of 'popular extensions' has been completely random. Will this be fixed any time soon?

I'm using Win7. Since Chrome updated to this version, I cannot close pinned tabs (have to unpin to close).

hmm noticed that when you open more tabs it does not show the tabbed pages via the windows task bar/jumplist.

Only shows the current page in displayed.

Extensions (including Google Voice, for example) are adding HTML to saved pages. Really bad.

Saved pages have their HTML tags all capitalized. Really bad.

As of version 5.0.307.1 dev, Extensions website renders error 500. It renders fine with Firefox.

It seems as though we will be getting drag-and-drop extension icon reordering in the next dev update. Please say it's true!

Also, I hope that the chevron (dropdown) menu for hidden extension icons works in the next update.

Yeah, why did you remove the --pinned-tab-count option? Is there another way to launch Chrome with tabs already pinned? Can you add it as an option on the right-click popup for each tab?
