Thanks for so frequent releases, it's not easy!

Which of the Cromium nightly builds (http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/chromium-rel-xp/) is identical (or most close) to this release of Chrome?

Mine is 5.0.317.2, now the extension's menu shows when I shrink the toolbar area:) Nice job!

Blogger XDRAGON360 said...

Oh, and now the extensions can be re-organized:D

Blogger Chris O'Brien said...

I personally don't need to rearrange my extension icons, but I absolutely think it is a necessary feature, so thank you for that. Although I hope they switch to an invisible slider, where the cursor changes to signify the function. Much like in firefox between the location bar and the search bar. I think it would provide a cleaner look to the interface.

My pin tab doesn't show either. Was it an intentional change?

Am I the only one experiencing broken extensions in this build and the previous build? They were all working fine, but now none of their icons show and background.html can't be found for any of them.

7:19 PM, February 05, 2010
Blogger Brendy said...

My pin tab is missing too. I hope it comes back :( I like the inclusion of google translate. Is it now officially part of chrome and no longer an extension? It doesn't show up in the extensions page.

Do you want a keyboard shortcut for the extensions page?
So, please star there: http://crbug.com/26842

Anyway, thanks!

Some bank sites are no longer working. This happened in the past and it was solved with a webkit update. Not sure is the same problems resurfacing.

Thanks for the new content management, I was expecting this kind of feature.. Good work.
What about the proxy settings!! why to share the setting with Internet explorer. Firefox has its own proxy settings, so, chrome definitely should have one too.

Blogger Nolan said...

Ditto on the pin tab missing in this update. I'm sure it'll be back in the next iteration, and this update is one of the best so far since it finally allows us to reorder the extension icons! Woo hoo!

Great work, Chrome team.

Blogger johnny said...

Why there has to be atleast 9 separate processes when there is actually one chrome instance(single tab) running?
This is not the way to go, its not logical, besides all that, each chrome.exe *32 uses aproximately 5-6MB of RAM. This definitely is a serious issue.

BTW, to those whose Pin Tab are missing, for me it is not missing.!!

How I can Download This Version's Offline Installer? Anyone Can Get The Link?

10:29 PM, February 05, 2010
Blogger Lumo said...

This 5.0.317.2 is excellent, one of the greatest advances for quite some time.

Just to be sure, the extensions can be dragged by the left mouse button. The hidden extensions under the "arrow" can be opened in a list.

Google Translate Extensions is becoming largely redundant because the browser has a hidden Google Translate in it.

In options, one can turn off JavaScript etc. For example, this makes my page, The Reference Frame, 10 times faster. Kind of amazing how it's there immediately. ;-) Otherwise it takes 1-3 seconds.

Good job. Lumo

Hi guys,

You need to include an option to turn off permanently the page level translation ASAP, it appears in every single page, extremely annoying, is driving me crazy.

Regards.

Blogger Magi said...

Please make an options to turn off extremely annoying page translations pop up (or slide down).

4:09 AM, February 06, 2010
Blogger Lumo said...

I hope that they won't disable the built-in Google Translate. It's great. The users above: can' you just click at "options" whenever the "annoying" slide down message appears, and turn off the translation for the given language and/or server? It will never appear again. I don't believe this may be too much hassle for anyone.

On the contrary, there should be a button to "restore" the translation after we turn it off - for a server or a language. So far, it seems permanently lost.

i dont understand how 70% users have issues = messed up OS maybe ? or to much tampering ard with chrome etc.

This version is more solid and faster yet.

Blogger krtulmay said...

@Lumo, no way! There *must* be a method/OPTION to disable the built-in translator. In fact, that is http://crbug.com/34520

That bug takes care of:
1. If user want to disable/re-enable the native translator feature, how could he achieve that?
2. If user want to bring some language/website back from translate exception list, how could he achieve that?

@Lumo,

Thanks.

Exrensions are all messed up. Google Voice extension and LastPass are logged in but don't show it in the icon LP stays gray and GV has the blue and moving dots under it constantly. Adblock doesn't work etc etc. Its the same in Chromium so I moved back to beta awaiting less buggy future rollouts.

@Dogan the option to disable it IS there. What there is NOT is the option to bring it back once disabled.
I personally like having this feature built-in. The extensions where slow, took up too much RAM and half the times didn't work. If you don't like it, you can just disable it.

I'm concerned about the Translation toolbar feature.

Every time we load a page will Chrome send that URL to "google-servers"... read its content... detect the language and return some data back to Chrome to open up the Translation toolbar ?? I thought Chrome would just check for the html 'language' metatags but I don't think so..( I was using english Facebook and many people wrote some stuff on my wall in German.. then all the sudden The translation toolbar pops up!)

Translation bar is a real LOL! If you read news-page and keep using BACK-button then after a while you can have several translation bars! Just look on this: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?8c94ef8b39.jpg

it's just 7 of them, but you can have MUCH more :)

GJ, Google!
