Stable Channel Update for Chromebooks

The Stable channel has been updated to 18.0.1025.140 (Platform version: 1660.98.0) for Chromebooks (Acer AC700, Samsung Series 5, and Cr-48). Machines will be receiving updates to this version over the next several days.

Release highlights:

  • Read about improvements to Chrome 18
  • Improvements to wifi connectivity
  • Improvements to File Manager
  • Stability & security updates
  • Improvements to video playback from File Browser
  • Updates to Pepper Flash
  • 23036 - Caps lock is now triggered via the Shift + Search key combination (instead of the double Shift key combination).
  • Two finger click when resting/hovering thumb present fixed (users would see 3 finger clicks instead); Faulty 3 finger click turned off to correct this issue.
  • Shortcut key for submitting Feedback is set as Shift + Alt + i

Known issues:

  • 26151: Occasionally, some users experience loss of audio when playing long streaming videos. Rebooting the system restores audio.
  • 26731: When accessibility (verbal feedback) is enabled, viewing different pages causes the CPU usage to go to 100%. Restarting the machine resolves the issue temporarily. Workaround: Disable accessibility with audio feedback.

If you find new issues, please let us know by visiting our help site or filing a bug. Interested in switching to the Beta channel? Find out how. You can submit feedback using ‘Report an issue’ under the wrench menu.

personally, i much preferred the double-shift combo for caps lock activation. i had never unintentionally activated caps lock until you switched it. i'm sure you thought it through, and it may work better for some, but is there a way for me to toggle it back to the old way? (cr-48)

First thing I noticed was the ultra fast scrolling, especially on sites like twitter. With regard to the file manager, would still like to be able to view my music in track order, rather than alphabetically.

I haven't tried yet since the update, but I'm secretly hoping that if I connect my Galaxy Nexus to my ChromeBook then it will be recognised. I might be wrong but is it just a matter of you updating the USB drivers.

hey, good chrome team:
why the web page size at preview print page is normal but the page size will smaller when actual print? what's problem?

ex: I see the page size (height and width)is 100% and 100%, and center,
but the page is resize to 70% and 70%, text-aligen was changed right when i print.

It Is Not What You See Is What You Get. And This Is Not single case, This Is All that.

You can testing print in the microsoft website:

thank you so much.

After upgrading from 17 to 18 some fonts do not work properly the problem is with the custom fonts. It works fine in part of the same page but the other parts it does not work and set the font to default. The issue is for Farsi(Persian) websites, so the page is right to left(RTL).

As already pointed out by Ramin Kermani, something bad happened with the rendering of custom fonts in version 18. Text appears much bolder and somewhat blurry. Moreover it highly depends on color; saturated colors seem to work better; e.g. black, blue or red. There are some noticeable threshold effects; when moving from #3f3f3f (ok) to #404040 (bold and blurry), from #FF0091 to #FF0092 or from #da00FF to #db00FF, respectively. All tests on white background and repeatable across a number of tested fonts.
