I'm unable to update from 31.0.1650.2 dev-m to this release. I click the button to close+update+relaunch, however, Chrome simply closes and does not automatically relaunch. Chrome still displays the three green bars signifying a pending update upon manual relaunch.

Yeah, at last... the new update has released, and the blank-blackout-screen has gone. Thank's anyway, 'cause the previous version like so much bug on it.

"new tab" redesigned or my settings got jumbled? I hate this HUGE google search above my most visited pages. If that thing is there to stay, I will switch to another browser.

We have a fix for the black screen issue in the works. Will be on the Dev channel early next week.

If you don't like the way the new tab page looks right now, then use the stable version. The dev version is the testing ground for new features and looks.

Jeff, the stable release has the new god awful New Tab page with the glaring Google logo in the middle of the screen too. It's just the latest bad idea allowed into the stable release. The other obvious bad idea being the huge chunks of white space in the margins of the address bar.

I use it on OSX Mavericks (desktop preview). Instead of black, I get transparent, so same bug.

To get back to the old New Tab page, go into chrome://flags. From there, scroll down to Enable Instant Extended API, disable it, and restart Chrome.
