Beta Channel Update for Chrome OS

The Beta channel has been updated to 40.0.2214.25 (Platform version: 6457.21.0). This build contains a number of bug fixes, security updates, and feature enhancements. Systems will receive updates over the next several days. Here is a list of Chromium changes.

Some highlights of these changes are:
  • The default wallpaper has been updated to Material Design. 
  • Custom wallpapers are now synced across your devices. 
  • Emoji palette allows users to quickly access emoji.

1. Open Chrome's Settings window.
2. Scroll to the bottom and click the Show advanced settings... link.
3. In the Accessibility section, toggle the Enable on-screen keyboard check box.

You'll see a new icon on your shelf that actives an on-screen keyboard. (It will also automatically activate when you focus on text boxes.) At the bottom of the virtual keyboard on the left, there's an icon that looks like a vertical ellipsis (...). Click it, then click the grinning face icon. Emoji!! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ™Œ

chromebox and ARM will get it later on (they seem to be the last that gets beta and stable updates)

be good if there was an option to prompt you that there is a new dev or beta version available instead of having to hammer the check and install update to see if there is an update or not

Check out "The Latest Versions of Google Chrome" in the App Store. It's an extension that will let you know when an update comes out.
