Stable Channel Update for Chrome OS

The Stable channel has been updated to 42.0.2311.87 (platform version: 6812.75.2). Systems will be automatically updated over the next few weeks. This build contains a number of bug fixes, security updates, and feature enhancements.

Some highlights of these changes are as follows:
  • Files app has been refreshed to follow the suit with Material Design
  • New Chrome OS Launcher including better search experience, voice search, and Google Now integration
  • Updated calculator app
  • Support for password-protected zip files
  • Default typeface on all Chromebooks has been updated to Roboto for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic scripts, to be more consistent with Material Design

If you find new issues, please let us know by visiting our forum or filing a bug. Interested in switching channels? Find out how. You can submit feedback using ‘Report an issue...’ in the Chrome menu (under the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner of the browser).

Excellent update left the Chrome OS much better but still have to improve a lot. I missed only the new form of favoritar the sites that was introduced in the final version 42 of Google Chrome for Windows, Mac and Linux in more is very good.

Does anything need to be done to get Google Now Cards to show up in the launcher? I still get them in the notification area.

I really dislike the new font. Also, I'd love an option to keep the file tree from cluttering the left pane in the files app.

I concur with other posters who complain they can't find Google Now. I still get cards in Notifications and have no access to Google Now from the launcher.

I was hoping the google now cards would show up on the desktop (which serves no purpose at this time).

I prefered hitting the search button and getting a list of apps, but the voice search is nice.

The new launcher makes us do a little effort just to open apps. You need to tap on launcher then move the fingers on trackpad to All Apps then tap it. Not effective. And just anybody else, no Google Now on new launcher.

Horrible. I go to update and come back, takes 2-3 minutes to open my file folders now and rarely displays those mini icons of my saved pics. I use my chromebook for photography/store pictures...it's probably close to 10 times slower now.

So...why was the fact that NPAPI plugins were disabled, not mentioned in the highlights? That's a fairly brazen change if you ask me. For anyone that doesn't know, if you're having issues with missing plugins, navigate to chrome://flags and re-enable npapi plugins.

Same issue as others with no Google Now cards on the new launcher not that I really use them any way. But, is there a way to manage the apps that appear to the left of the "All Apps" icon? I think they are supposed to be recently used apps but the first three for me never change.

Font kerning looks bad at 1536x864 ressolution on my Toshiba Chromebook 2. Uneven, distracting spacing between letters on web pages and in apps. System elements e.g. tabs, omnibox look ok.

The font - holy cow. There are so many condensed fonts. Is anyone else typing with Times New Roman Condensed for Google Docs? Any way to fix this so that the fonts look normal in Google Drive?

Really dislike the new launcher. I guess it would be OK if you were mostly using it to search; oddly, I'm mostly trying to use it to launch stuff. That's now a more cumbersome process. Why? (Fortunately I found the flag to turn it off, at least for now - please, if you must keep this launcher, do also keep the option to remove it...)

Also turned off the Roboto font. Which was very nice and all, I'm sure, until you tried to read anything with it... Seriously, guys, I don't need my Chromebook to look like my Android tablet. It's a different device for a different purpose.

Hurry up and add this to the Admin Console as the highest restricted update. Those of us in large domains that want to test updates before pushing them out use this option and all of our units are going to stick to v41.* until someone stops falling asleep at the wheel over there.
