Stable Channel Update for Chrome OS

The Stable channel has been updated to 48.0.2564.92 (Platform version: 7647.73.0) for all Chrome OS devices. This build contains a number of bug fixes, security updates, and feature enhancements. Systems will be receiving updates over the next several days.

Some highlights of these changes are:
  • Improved Download Notifications
  • Material Redesign for Video Player
  • Adding Google Photos as a Default App
  • Update Recovery Screens
  • Cultural Institute Wallpapers for Chrome OS

Security Fixes
Note: Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix. We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven’t yet fixed

  • [579179] High CVE-2016-0728 Kernel keyring refcount leak. Credit to Perception Point Research Team.

If you find new issues, please let us know by visiting our forum or filing a bug. Interested in switching channels? Find out how. You can submit feedback using ‘Report an issue...’ in the Chrome menu (3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner of the browser)

Please go back to the 'old' version of the Video Player.. The Material Redesign for Video Player don't make any sense.. And.. It takes more klicks to go to and from fullscreen and to close the new video player.

In the video player, the shortcut keys were changed. Spacebar used to pause and unpause video, just like every other video player does. However now it toggles fullscreen. The only "shortcut" I've found to pause and unpause is to click in the playing video.

Three keys for switching a language??? are you serious???
This is the keyboard shortcut me and many others use the most! and for many many years on Windows!
What's next? changing the copy-paste shortcuts?
If something, I would add a dedicated key for switching a language to the keyboard!

Trying to change alt+shift with ctrl+shift+space for switching a language is the worst decision since the new Bookmarks manager which was pulled back...

Probably silly, but as yet unGoogleable question: Are Chrome browser updates packaged with Chrome OS updates? There were browser security updates for Chrome on Windows, OSX and Linux, but I wasn't sure if they applied to Chrome OS or is they were part of the OS releases (or if the vulnerabilities applied to the browser under Chrome OS at all.
Thank you

Regarding Pause/Play in the re-designed Video Player, tapping on the trackpad (once) now performs the same function as the spacebar did previously. Initially confusing, but one gets used to it.
Sadly not the case with file downloads now appearing on the pop-out notifications panel, which is a significant step down from the more convenient bottom-line onscreen progress bars.
