Anybody knows how to re-enable translation for a language?

- The translate bar compresses itself badly if viewed in a window with small width.
- The bookmarks bar (at least on Mac) looks pretty messed up with now incorrect widths, and too large spacing, as well as some strange bookmark text centering going on.

Oops, forgot to mention that the issues above with the bookmarks bar applies to folders with bookmarks in them on the bookmarks bar.

- If closing a tab next to your active tab (I tried closing a tab just before the active tab, but it may not matter) that has the translate bar opened, the translate bar disappears from your active tab.

Actually, it appears that google gears crashes this version of chrome, because I can now view gmail and my calendar with it disabled.

First of all: great release, thanks! Translate bar is welcome!
On Mac, when a folder is put to the bookmark bar and I open it the displayed list is messed-up. (huge paddings, centered labels)

Serious bug -

Inserting multiple rows into the Web Database is broken. This bug was introduced with the last dev build (3.0.335.0) and still persists. I entered the bug here - http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=36862

This is breaking my extension and most likely any web app the is using Web Database.

For those where gmail, docs or any gears related web app now crashes:

A quick fix is to remove your offline gears data.

Remove the specific folder as defined here:

http://gears.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=79850

Remember, this will remove your offline data AND disable gears for all web apps. But you will be able to get back into gmail, docs etc.

Blogger Pras said...

To Access Gmail
just Go To Settings> Gears then find
for gmail.com, mail.google.com etc and disable it. dont remove it. gmail will work! dont delete folders it will create problems. when gears fixed enable those things again. Thats all!!!

The "Pin tabs function" is back, yes, but is not flexible/handy as before, in version 4... This must be reviewed and improved, I think.

Otherwise, thanks to you for this version !

We're working on a fix for the crash with Gears (gadgets that use latitude on iGoogle, offline Docs or Gmail, etc).

If all goes well, we'll release the update tomorrow (Pacific Time, GMT +8).

Thanks for using the Dev channel, and thanks for being patient. We really appreciate the feedback, and we are listening (even if we can't respond to everything immediately).

Thank you Mark Larson ! :) I forgot to say that the translate bar is very useful, but a little annoying... It would be better if it would be more customizable (more options to control it), in my advice.

Have a good day ! :)

Moreover, It would be nice to have an option to disable the Translation Bar.

On Windows, you can disable translation feature completely by un-checking
"Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language I read" checkbox.
That's located in [Options] > [Under the Hood] > [Translate].

12:45 AM, March 05, 2010
Blogger Fabio_Rulez said...

a lot of common people does not look in the under the hood section, so we need a direct way to disable it, as example in the native translator bar add an option: never translate web pages.

I think that the name 'under the hood' scares a lot of people to look in that options explecially in some languages: in italian is translated to 'roba da smanettoni' that is something like: hacker stuff. i find it really stupid considering the basilar functionality that are inside that group of options...

Congratulations, Chrome/Chromium Team. A lot of very important issues have been done for the Mac this time. The only UI-features still missing are the ordering of browser actions, the dragging and dropping with the mouse of URL's in the omnibar into the folders and subfolders of the bookmarks bar where the user wants them to belong and the dragging and dropping of bookmarks between folders and subfolders of the
bookmarks bar (reordering function). These are features that exist in the Windows-version since a long time.

In any case: many thanks for this version for the Mac: There is finally a good handling of cleaning and of handling of cookies, also I can now "open all bookmarks" from a subfolder (FINALLY!!!!!!).

Love Chrome.

6:30 AM, March 05, 2010
Blogger Peter said...

You are absolutely right, Kirk, on your comment for the Mac for not able to see all the bookmarks. I have the same problem. I have a lot of bookmarks organized in folders and subfolders in the bookmarks bar. The space(length) for a bookmark-URL in the list is not sufficient and also the spacing between two bookmarks in the bookmarkslist in e.g a subfolder of a folder of the bookmarks bar is too wide. Spacing and length should be like in the Windows version of Chrome and like in the previous Mac version.

Same for me. Crash in Gmail offline with latest update of Chrome. I've switched temporarily to Firefox for reading/writing my e-mail on-line.

Unfortunately, atari52oo, most of this current "ME" generation, immediate satisfaction young-uns don't bother to read important stuff like titles nor the posting for each release. So sad..... I know......

I have a issue. Extensions move. Like I have 3 extensions showing (LiveChrome,Chromed Bird and goo.gl url shortner.) and have about 5 in the drop-down-box. But every so often when I use my computer and launch chrome. They move. So the order gets messed p. And I always get a different order showing. Really annoying. This is not present in Chromium or Beta/Stable channels

@Atari52oo

Updates are automatic. The note is read after the update, usually. After the crash I decided to read the comments of other users to find possible solutions before the patch, for not to be forced to use Firefox in alternative. Now the latest patch has solved the problem with Gmail offline (in less than 24 hours!)

In the future I will read the notes before commenting on things already known, but for me it's always good to read and confirm the problem to the developers (many voices are better than one). Imho.

@ krtulmay

The evidence of problem was only for feedback and not for "immediate satisfaction of young'uns generation". In the future I will avoid to report my feedback. Thanks.

Hello, I am running Google Chrome Dev Channel 5.0.342.2.
Since yesterday I have had the problem of Chrome crashing whenever I try to access Google Calendar (this is my major concern as I use it a lot), secondly, my extensions seem to have disappeared all together.
As recommended I checked my Gears settings, but I don't have permission set for 'calendar.google.com'.

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It is very useful, but annoying at times. When you are on a foreign language website, on each page there is the drop down which moves the whole page even if we put translate automatically, a few more options would be nice..

Chrome- 5.0.342.3 version is being used by me.
Issues are:
1) Under the autofill option I filled in an address which I wish to remove/ edit- how do I do that?
2) Chrome saves all login IDs despite Autofill being turned off. How do I prevent Chrome from doing this?
3) In IE I can very easily locate my favorites- is difficult to do so under Chrome and even if I know where the favorites are stored it is not in readable format.
Can you please help?

Thanks in advance.
