also added: - Automatic Integrated Windows Authentication - tabbed bookmark manager - download progress on win7 superbar - Pinned tabs persistent across sessions - Extension can work in incognito (if allowed in the extension tab)
You done a greate work, but could you change the "session permanent" pinned tabs to real permanent pinned tabs. Most of the time I work with two windows snap with aero snap on both sides of the screen, in this case the tabs are not pinned permant ;(
Font rendering on Linux has changed for me since the last beta release, Chrome no longer obeys my Gnome font settings. How can I get the old behaviour back?
I'm also a bit confused with the version numbers. I have been on the dev channel which has now updated to 5.0.375.29 - now you're saying that this is beta rather than dev? If you look at the chrome releases page the beta is now ahead of the dev release. Really don't understand...
@EVERYONE wondering about number versions and beta/dev:
this is how it works: when a new major (stable channel) release is close, then dev channel start to stabilize a branch of code (in this case .375). you can see than since a bit of time dev is at .375.x that is the branch candidate for the major release. this means that no new feature are added, but just crash fixes, in order to make the branch stable enough for the majority of users. Than the dev, when enough stable, pass to the beta channel, for other test and fix. and, at the end, the .375 branch will pass to stable. So now we are in a point in which the .375 branch has just passed for dev to beta, so the version is the same for beta/dev! in a couple of weeks dev will move on from .375 branch and start to get in chrome 6 branches, while .375 branch will be promoted to the stable channel (and then, stable and beta will have the same version for a bit of time, while a new branch of chrome 6 will be ready for a beta release).
I sure am getting very tired of having to disable Flash again every time a new version comes along. This is geting stupid. Why does it seem you're trying to force Flash down our throats whether we want it or not?
ERR_UNSAFE_PORT.... accessing an internal site on port 6665 that worked flawlessly prior to this beta version. I noticed a lot of traffic about this error from 2008/2009... has something been inadvertently regressed? Or is there some additional config now required to allow Chrome to work with ports that it was previously OK with?
Right now Geolocation only support the Google Network Location Provider (See http://goo.gl/eL19). You can test it by going to http://plebeosaur.us/etc/map/location.html but if you are on a LAN connection it will usually only get City level resolution (mine had accuracy = 43000).
It would be great to see this use the Windows 7 Location API, which lets you set a default location or use GPS and other location sensors.
On Mac the built-in flash plugin (10.1.53.22) doesn't have GPU acceleration support. I tested one youtube video and this release shows 40% CPU but if I disable the built-in and enable Flash (10.1.81.3) CPU drops to about 15%.
How come Chrome can be installed and started directly after a single button click without any "File Save2 or "File Open" confirmation dialog by the browser? (I used Firefox)
Seems like security risk. Not Chrome's "fault" in this case, but Firefox's though :)
Such a nice update by Chrome Team, go ahead Chrome and gain 100% market share. I have a question why don`t google by Tonec Inc. of Internet Download Manager an d use its Download speedup techniques in Chrome and Free Download Manager which has GNU License.
Since the "--omnibox-popup-count=0" bugs still have NOT been fixed even after all this time, Firefox stays my default browser for a little while longer.
The flash player ver 10.1 start to support HW acceleration of GPU. Will chrome support GPU HW acceleration for HTML5 such as tage? If so, which API will be adopted in Linux? VAAPI? VDPAU? When will it happen?
Ребята, а когда появиться возможность из-под Google Chrome печатать выделенный фрагмент веб-страницы? Пока что, можно печатать только всю страницу целиком.
Still no fix for the garbled font issue when using Mac os 10.6. My fonts just appear as an 'A' symbol on many sites. I can open the same page in Safari or Firefox with no problems. Wont be using Chrome until this bug can be fixed which is a shame because otherwise it's great.
Thanx Chrome team for a great browser! Can anybody tell me if I can use the native client feature while sustaining the sandbox structure? If not, when will this feature be available? Thanx. Marko.
for who has a mac 10.6 with issues on displaying text, please file a new bug here http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry and report to this blog the link to that bug so everyone who is facing this problem can provide more info there and 'star' the issue so it will be solved soon..
Mark-- could you take a look at http://crbug.com/11269 ? Is the screenshot similar to what you see? (Also, see the comment at comment 37. Do those steps help for you? Warning: proceed with caution if you follow those steps.) Thanks.
Im using Google Chrome Beta on my Netbook running Ubuntu 9.04 32bit and the latest upgrade has caused my flash performance to drop to an unusable level. While I've now disabled the Goggle supplied flash plug-in that was causing my tabs in chrome to lock-up, I'm still disappoint that problems like these weren't picked up in the unstable version and somehow made it to beta.
Chrome's built-in Flash should be disabled if there is already a more recent version of Flash! I've been using the 10.1 beta, which is far and away much more responsive on my machine, but after installing the new Chrome it ignored the 10.1 beta and CPU usage went up again. I had to manually disable Chrome's built-in Flash. This shouldn't happen, even for those of us who want to use beta versions.
I want my old external bookmark app, as there is no functionality in the tabbed bookmarks as compare to the external bookmark app... i cant fucking drag and drop & arrange, multiple selections... i cant fucking view the URLs... i cant fucking use Home and End keys... i left firefox which i used since alpha days for chrome and using it since 0.2 but if i cant find my old external bookmark app i fucking drop it for something else ! FUCKHEADS ...
When I am in a bookmarks folder and I press a letter in my keyboard ("d", for exemple) Chrome doesn't go to my favorites that start with the letter "d".
Sometimes in Chrome when multiple tabs , not necessarily that many, maybe 4 or 5, are open
when I switch to the next tab the page just isn't there(white screen), even if it loaded minutes ago, it
seems to take Chrome a while to make sense of it and display it, the tabs are just blank
white until the browser catches up and remembers what it's doing.
if it's only a few seconds then that is acceptable but if it took say 45+ seconds then that i would consider a problem.
eg:
open chrome 5 latest dev channel(Google Chrome 5.0.375.23) and goto www.orkut.com 2.open two orkut videos in two new tabs and open 8 other orkut user's profile tabs(total ten)and make sure all of them are loaded fully 3.now switch to the tab containing video
it displays white screen and slowly loads from top of screen takes 50 sec+ otherwise "Aw snap" or "irresponsive tab and opens task manager"
the main prob is u cant close the browser and restore all tabs at next start because there are lot of chrome.exe in task manager..even if u manage to close it makes my win xp sp3 to cry the same way as tat tab did for 5 to 10 min.
Yes, your screenshot is exactly what I am getting. The same page however loads fine in other browsers. What OS are you on? I'm pretty sure it's a Snow Leopard issue on the mac (I'm on 10.6.3). I will post it on the link that Fabio_Rulez suggests and see if anyone can find a fix.
@Mark: since there is just a bug open http://crbug.com/11269 update the thread there.. first of all make sure you are on the beta channel (wrench menu -> about google chrome -> 5.0.375.29 beta) because this bug is not solved yet on stable. so if you are in beta channel and you still see that issue update that bug with your version and your steps to repro, so they will reopen that bug that they think is fixed
First, I uninstalled the older version (10.0.45.2)
Then, I disabled Google Chrome Shockwave Flash (gcswf32.dll) in about:plugins that current version is 10.1.53.22 [I don't know why not updated automatically]
Finally, I downloaded and installed version 10.1.53.38 RC4
I've been using Google Chrome for several months and yes it's fast, it's nice, and the only problem was that I had to clean cookies every few days which I never did before so often, because it started working slower. Yesterday I downloaded new Chrome for Windows, and I must tell there's SOMETHING WRONG, because when I open few windows, even just two, the second doesn't show full page, there appears a frame (you know there's web-design can be made of frames), so in that frame which is like half page size and the page goes in there, the rest of the window is white, so there's some mistake I think. If to fix this it will be still a very good nice browser, I liked using it.
Google Chrome 5 Beta is really the fastest Browser around. I have listed some cool features and tests to show comparative speeds of various browsers on my Blog as well- Techchai.com

I've founded a workaround to ugly fonts rendering on ubuntu. Remove ttf-liberation package. It seems that removing this package, Arial will be mapped to sexier fonts ;)
Add me to the list of Linux users (Fedora 13 here) who are having font-rendering issues with Chrome 6. Chrome 5 was much better here. Seems like either antialiasing or hinting is not being respected.
How can one download the last release until this is fixed?

What will be done about Adobe Flash on 64-bit Linux? I mean, most people use 64-bit OS nowadays and chances are Chrome OS will be, too.
also added:
- Automatic Integrated Windows Authentication
- tabbed bookmark manager
- download progress on win7 superbar
- Pinned tabs persistent across sessions
- Extension can work in incognito (if allowed in the extension tab)
you said 64bit chrome would be out "soon" in august 2009, its may 2010 now, when will it be out?
My latest Dev (Mac) got the same version number. (?)
This is pure awesome. My browser is on crack! I LOVE IT!!!!
Is there a difference between the 5.0.375.29 for Mac labelled "dev" versus the one labelled "beta" with the same #?
Is there an advantage to move to the beta version?
You done a greate work, but could you change the "session permanent" pinned tabs to real permanent pinned tabs. Most of the time I work with two windows snap with aero snap on both sides of the screen, in this case the tabs are not pinned permant ;(

Should I first uninstall Flash 10.1 RC2? I don't want to have two Flash players/versions.
Nevermind. I just went ahead and uninstalled Flash 10.1 RC2

Wow! Beta channel kept up with the Dev.
Bookmark toolbar favicons are still blank.
Please bring them back. Having my bookmark toolbar with icons and no names was really efficient.
Is this a UI bug? It just started happening with the latest beta release.

The issue is corrected when I restore/maximize the window or when I open a new tab.

will chrome switch to webkit2 ??
Since the "--omnibox-popup-count=0" bugs still have NOT been fixed even after all this time, Firefox stays my default browser for a little while longer.

Is there an easy way to switch back to the previous version? Like some others, my fonts are now so ugly that Chrome is barely useable...

Under ubuntu 10.04, the is no integrated flash in this beta :(
You can't drag the star any more! I found this easier to bookmark with than selecting a folder from a drop-down list. Why is this feature removed?
Also Chrome now starts up with the home page, even if that option is not selected.

All major browsers support for wysiwyg editor except Chrome ..
WHY?
When we wait to support this strong html editor (WYSIWYG) ?
Pls add this feature .
thx

I installed Flash 10.1 RC4 (10.1.53.38).
But bundled 10.1.53.22 (older than RC4) will be used.
Checked at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

I mean already, not just. ;)

I love this browser, but it's a shame we can't choose the version of Flash we want to use.
I'm using Flash GALA pre-release on OSX, and I had to put Flash 10.1.81.3 into the Application folder in order to have this specific version of Flash.
Should I do this every time Chrome will update the bundled plug-in ?
For those wondering why i want this version, it's because the video hardware acceleration is enabled on this version.
Same font problem here.
Ugly fonts on Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. Chrome no more follow gnome settings
I've founded a workaround to ugly fonts rendering on ubuntu. Remove ttf-liberation package. It seems that removing this package, Arial will be mapped to sexier fonts ;)
These changes are good.
@ouss you can choose between versions. Type about:plugins and enable/disable the plugin as needed.
I don't like the new silver UI color... The old blue looks much better.
What is the new "show bookmarks" key? I'm loosing my mind because of that change...
I am on an intranet; on Inernet Explorer I set "Detect proxy automatically"; it works.
On Chrome it does not work.
How to troubleshoot this?
