Chrome Beta Release

The Chrome team is happy to announce the arrival of Chrome 11.0.696.16 to the Beta channel for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Chrome 11 contains some really great improvements including:
  • HTML5 speech input API
  • GPU-accelerated 3D CSS
  • The brand new shiny Chrome icon

More on what's new at the Official Chrome Blog.

You can find full details about the changes that are in Chrome 11 in the SVN revision log. If you find new issues, please let us know by filing a bug. Want to change to another Chrome release channel? Find out how.

Chrome's Windows 7 taskbar color highlight is now red instead of yellow, but I like it.

PS I just enabled the better Omnibox matching flag and I'm noticing faster and better history matches. Nice!

BTW, speaking of about:flags, how about adding a flag that searches bookmarks and autocompletes entered URLs? I LOVE that feature in IE9, it's way better than Chrome's.

Don't like the new Chrome icon. It's too flat. It doesn't fit in on either Windows or Mac, where slight perspective is the word. This flat circle looks jarring and out of place.

It might be an okay logo, but it's a terrible icon.

Indeed, with the mania of graphic modernisms, they will ruin the Chrome logo.
There are people who, just to justify a high salary, begins to invent and spoils which took several years to earn a Mark of Prestige…
It would be like changing the logo from Picasa or Google: we look and there is no need of subtitles.
A BRAND takes many years (with luck and in rare cases, a short time) to consolidate. And even today you sell products/articles because of the symbol/mark/badge/logo, rather than by quality. Just let us remind, brand clothing, shoes, watches, wallets, perfumes…

"Old" icon back please. New one is NOT shiny and it was misleading to say as such.

If you want to keep the icon like that, at least keep it in the same scale as other windows icons, having it slightly smaller looks ill-designed!

I agree, I don't think the new icon is shiny or attractive.

I like the new icon.

So instead of being annoyed by that one for a change, I'd like to annoy myself over the lack of a redesigned Canary build icon in the latest Canary releases. ;-) But hopefully it's coming!

Well, about the logo..its quite good...nice and modern type i.e everyones's gonna like it. Two changes that I wish is hopefully changed in the next released beta version.
1) Please see that we can delete history by days (instead of selecting one item at a time, which is tiresome.)
2) Please make the zoom function customizable. Currently we can only set the zoom at preset levels.

From the above you might have concluded that I didn't say anything about HTML and stuff.. well i'm not really sure what they are so please don't mind.
Your regards into this matter is earnestly solicited.

Well, if you don't like the new icon, just use the old one. Simple enough.

I like it, but don't care too much either.

I like the older icon myself. The new icon looks too 90's retro.

Oh, I get the new icon. When you look at it on its own it looks very ominous. Yeah, that fits nicely.

Absolutely hate the new icon. Might be a fine logo on a web page, but it's an absolutely terrible app icon.

I think the problem is how the depth is portrayed. It's a dull worn-down plastic feel rather than fresh shiny glass or metallic... it looks like it needs some Windex. The new iTunes logo is essentially just as flat, but at least it has a nice clean glossy feel to it.

I LIKE the new logo. Simple and attractive! The old one is complicated unnecessarily, and looks something in the Alien movie!

It's been eleven versions and hundreds of updates. You have made one hell of a browser... but I can't believe you still owe a dedicated proxy server configuration section under Windows. Any proxy config you put in Chrome is shared with IE. Please change this. Please? Pretty please?

I've been using chrome in fedora for about six months now, and until a few weeks ago, I've loved it. Google has been great in supporting the user to do what they want with the software on their own computer... until now.

Some dbags decided to take away my right to run chrome as root. Words do not expressed how pissed off I am about this.

I've been running unstable when this first came up, but no patch has been released into a build, and now some dbag decided to push this into beta.

I really don't understand why you don't implement the input API to record microphone sound. This API is much more necessary and it must be easier to implement.
Please, implement the fucking input API! :)

If the upgrade from 10 to 11 on Linux makes all your passwords disappear do this... To access them again use google-chrome --password-store=detect
. That's on Ubuntu 10.04.2 google beta channel from google official repository.

I prefer to make all the icons smaller on my desktop and in the taskbar. The new logo is probably not designed for this? It looks very flat and a bit washed out. And sometimes there is a white circle around the blue dot which looks very bad design.
Just placed the icon on my desktop and resized the icons to the normal Windows 7 size (which is totally ridiculous big). There it looks nice. Maybe a bit small compared to the others, but very nice.
